A First for Everyone

On Sunday Clint took the family to our very first NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway! It was quite an experience. About a month ago we were invited to watch the race in a suite. We decided it was an opportunity we couldn't pass up. I mean seriously, we've all heard about NASCAR, but I don't know many people who have ever been. Aren't you a little curious too?

Here are boys before the race began. We got to the track about three hours early. We knew that traffic would be bad if we got there close to race time and since we were in a suite we knew we could wait for the race to start in comfort. There was an REO Speedwagon concert on the track before the race began. After the concert, they began lining the cars up. You can see the cars lined up behind Clint and Lane. They pushed the cars out about thirty minutes before the race began. It was neat to see all the cars lined up.
Aren't Clint's headphones cute? The people who sit down in the stands pretty much HAVE to have headphones or earplugs because the cars are so loud. The neat thing about the headphones Clint is wearing is that you can tune into the drivers to listen in on what they are saying. They have crews that help them strategize when to make a move on another driver and they also have guys that direct them in for their pit stops. There is also a little tv on the thing he is holding that allows you to see different angles from your car of choice. It was amazing to see how close those drivers get to each other.
Before we left Clint and I went down to the stands to see the race up close. It was so loud down there that we couldn't even talk to each other! It was neat to see the cars upclose, but I can't imagine sitting down in the stands for four hours.
